Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10 to 24 years of age. While suicidal thoughts are a passing experience for a majority of youth, a significant percentage have a history of attachment and trauma issues. For these youth, suicidal feelings occur at a much higher frequency and are longer lasting. These situations involve many challenges across a range of community services. Many practitioners find that "counselling/therapy as usual" does not adequately address these situations.
This one-day workshop provides practitioners with an overview of how attachment and trauma issues contribute to suicidal behaviour in youth. Importantly, how practitioners can frame their involvement to increase strengths and help decrease short and long term risk.
